The Covid alert has lowered, and days of confining indoor had temporarily passed; art and culture venues are reopened, and the stages are alive once again with rehearsing performers. Finally, we can put back “go to a live performance” on our agenda. Whether we decide to go out or stay home, programs will inevitably coexist in the form of online streaming and live performance: art and cultural activities are returning to our lives in various ways.
This is National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts Weiwuying’s statement when announcing its reopening: “We get ready for reopening every day, and we hope that every step takes us towards a bright future.” This “Art Center for Everyone”, which celebrates its third anniversary this October, has also readily prepared the birthday party invitation for everyone. The “Weiwuying Anniversary 3.0”, scheduled to be held on the National Day long weekend, will grandly open in the evening of 9th October (Sat), featuring the Open House that offers free admission to the four venues, the highly anticipated outdoor Swing Party, the electrifying EDM Party, and the popular Sunset Market Strip. With these exciting activities, we invite you to come to visit during the joyous Double Ten holiday and celebrate the third anniversary of Weiwuying with a long-awaited moment of gathering.
As the time spent at home increases, many people have picked up the book and regained the joy of reading. During the pandemic alone, book sales in Taiwan have grown by as much as 60%. Other than dipping into the new releases, we finally have the leisure and patience to read the literary classics that we don't usually devour from around the world. This issue's Arts Up to Speed will revisit the ingenious and subtle connection between literary classics and performing arts. If we're always waiting for the opportunity to turn over the title page of a slightly weighty masterpiece, a play is often its best introduction.
