Attend a Performance that Strikes the Body and Soul

Although the temperature has slightly lowered, the world of performance before the end of the
year has not yet cooled down. Instead, the momentum is on the brim of exploding. In addition
to Matsu Takako's show that causes a frenzy of ticket-grabbing, there is NTCH's "Artquake In
Autumn," National Taichung Theater's "Fall for Great Souls," and "Tainan Arts Festival" happening
simultaneously from north to south. The island seems to exuberate with vitality that refutes the
changing seasons with various new programs and timeless classics.

This November, the biennial "Taiwan Dance Platform" will launch at National Kaohsiung Center
for the Arts Weiwuying, featuring Hung Dance, Autumn Cedar Sóo-Tsāi, HORSE, etc. Curator
Chou Shu-Yi points out that Taiwan is an island country where citizens must cross the ocean to
reach another land, take a plane to meet a foreign city, and connect with more people through
the Internet. This year's "Taiwan Dance Platform" was planned during the pandemic. What
energy can dancing empower us when international travel has halted? Whether online or offline,
in person or virtual, artists are all looking for ways to create and produce new works. "Island
connection: Body online" brings together the contemplations of the past two years. Through body
image and sound exhibitions, international forums, live performances, and body workshops, it
will reflect the unstoppable strength of the body and spark the possible future of life.

Have you ever noticed "play reading" among the many forms of performances? Actors go through
pages and pages of script with each other——this is no longer just a scenario in the rehearsal
room. Now, the audience can enjoy such a performance. Go to this issue's Arts Up to Speed to
find out how play reading stands out in today's theaters.
